BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (March 3rd, 2023): The National Housing Corporation (NHC) is set to revolutionize the housing industry with the rollout of the largest housing initiative of its kind in the history of the Federation, a blueprint for first-time homeowners.
This affordable SMART Homes Initiative, one of the most desirous socio-economic reforms in St. Kitts, is a collaborative effort between NHC and the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis that was birthed with optimism to enrich our citizens, through the ownership of homes and contributing to their upward mobility.
The first phase will commence shortly, with the construction of 600 homes to be completed by the end of 2023, totaling 2400 homes over a 5-year period.
The process has begun with the reviewing of applications and the reconfiguration of 1-, 2- and 3-bedroom architectural designs. These SMART Homes will be modernized and equipped with solar energy and water cisterns or water storage tanks, never before seen in the NHC affordable homes.
The objective of this new housing plan is to restore confidence in the minds of working-class citizens who may have lost hope of owning a home. If we are to raise our standard of living, it’s imperative we do so from an economic standpoint.
Another important aspect of this project is that it strives to stimulate the economy by providing employment opportunities for our citizens. The application process for home ownership, contractors, heavy equipment operators, etc. is open to all citizens of St. Kitts.
This movement for SMART Affordable Housing is in great demand and will be used as a tool to mitigate the existing and anticipated inflated prices due to limited supply.
